Be corky.

wassup

Got back from Wordstock (which was so great it deserves it’s own post –later, but thanks for your prayers!) 5 days ago and landed with a fever and quite sick (literally landed this way, it hit me on the second plane home). A lot of people wear themselves out there I’m told (I wouldn’t know, this was my first time going, and though Darren’s gone to all 3 he’s as strong as an ox and hardly ever gets anything more than a sore throat, which he did this time too, who wouldn’t with all that screaming at the concerts) and go home and get sick, but boy, I really did it. I even went to bed extra early the last night of Wordstock thinking I would beat the whole “go home sick” thing. Anyway…

The part that I really had to “rise above” was that I completely flat out in bed. I slept for three days hardly getting out of bed for anything but food (yeah, I still have to eat even when I’m sick :-) ) so I missed all the extra family days I was slotted with the kids. We had promised to take them fishing and waited to see if I’d get better, but no, so finally Darren took them with Dulcy’s help.

That was day four, and though I was feeling a bit better I had to force myself to sit at my computer for 10 hours straight because I had stacked up deadlines in work that I had absolutely no way around. It was hard to miss out on the fishing but instead I prayed for the kids to catch fish and praised the Lord that they had good weather and that Dulcy had agreed to help him take the kids fishing. (Thanks Dulce!) The reward was when the Lord answered prayer and they came home having caught 10 fish! (little guys, but still, 10 of them!!)

They were soooooo jazzed about it. They brought them all home in their buckets and pulled them out and lined them up on our front porch. Emmer (almost 2 yrs) kept saying “Tsshhh Mama! Fishies sleeping!” :-) So, so cute, what could I say? “Yes, Emmer. Fishies taking very looooong nap!” :-P

Today I got to be with them. It was supposed to be my day off, but I missed the kids too much and figured I’d slept through all our precious family time on sick days. So kiddos and I had a great day today. We went to Kmart and brought home and kiddie pool and yellow plastic “turtle” sandbox. And in the afternoon we played in the sand, bounced on the trampoline and raked the leaves around it and generally cleaned up our small back yard.

Everything we did together was fun and magical today. I know it was just one of those days where the Lord is just making everything up to you. Lunch was an impromptu “tour of Italy” in which I was the Italian chef “Clara” and we dipped cheese quesadillas (which we called “an pizza”) in little dishes of olive oil. I dubbed the kids “Ivan” and “Bella” and Emmer was “Benini”. About my special Italian accent I thought I was doing pretty good until Ella asked me why I was “talking like a boy”. Whatever :-)

I had so much fun.

One of the best things about the day was to know that Darren was actually resting. A couple of times I went into our room and he was actually still in bed. I know, hard to believe. But yes. It was a good feeling to know he was getting some much deserved rest.

Now on to the challenges of a new week. –Hoping I can see my sister Danni’s baby sometime and hoping that my dad and mom will visit this week too.
