One Big Post
K, here’s some odd news and tidbits from us:
* Evan lost his 2nd front tooth. Yep, now his top two teeth are missing and he’s singing “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.”
* The kids went out caroling Friday evening for the first time this Christmas season. They were so bold. Here comes a proud-mommy comment: They were the best little carolers ever! Phew, I said it. Really.
Evan boldly gave the Salvation message at each door and the results were five people praying with him to receive Jesus.
We were a 12 man caroling team. It was great.
* My dad sent the kids an e-card tonight that says “Keep smiling. It makes people wonder what you are up to!”
* Darren hurt his shoulder playing football Thanksgiving day. He was still for a catch and got knocked in the shoulder. He didn’t see the hit coming so he was all relaxed and ended up tearing a ligament over his shoulder bones. His arms in a sling, mostly so he doesn’t use it and re-injure it. He’s been doing better, seeing a chiropractor and she’s been helping him with some rehab.
The good news is that we’re back in the chiropractors office (I was going in a little while ago) and so we get to see them again now every week. They -a husband and wife team- are very nice people, they’ve helped us and other Family members a lot and love to hear about our work. So Darren got to invite them to our annual Christmas party this year. –Praying they can come!
* We had a goodbye party for Dulcy last night. It was a swell thing.
The theme was black and white movie days, though admittedly none of us really knew what era we were dressing for so there was quite a hodgepodge of dress and style.
We had coke and root beer in glass bottles (and we drank with straws), licorice, bubble gum, ice-cream milkshakes, etc.
We listened to some awesome jazz from the 30’s-50’s.
I was going to rent “I Love Lucy’s” but couldn’t find them at Blockbuster, so instead we rented “That Thing You Do” on the big projector, and Sam converted it to Black and White. So that worked! And I got to watch my favorite band EVER –The ONEders!!
All of us, her swell, sweet and s_____l (special! –what were you thinking) friends, did an unpracticed rendition of “So Long, Farwell” for Dulcy. Then we presented her with a very s____l guitar, –apparently the guitar of her dreams. And Dulcy sang for us one last time our favorite song “Hold Me” (Julie Greeneyes). Tears. Tears. (What will life be like without her? It’s all starting to hit us now.)
* Juan visited. (And yes, he dared to show his face around these parts without Angela and our namesake baby Darren!) But Darren and I were forgiving, and we had breakfast with him this morning.
We ate at the Original Pancake House in Vista on Melrose Drive. It’s an awesome breakfast place. It’s classy. And they make the BEST OMLETTES! Awesome.
Anyway I just thought some of you who live around here might appreciate the tip in case you want to try something other than the Potato Shack sometime. There’s no long wait like at that place, or the crowdedness and the feeling that you better hurry up and eat so the one hundred people standing outside do not come in and have their way with you. –But that’s a whole other post.
*Mom and “Wowza” Ruthie took the kids downtown again to Main Street and they got to have a carriage ride around town and wave at everyone and say Merry Christmas. Then they went and looked in each of the shop windows at all the Christmas displays, and they drank hot cider. They loved it. Such a good experience for them and I’m so thankful that our kids are growing up in the Family with so many people and family members who love and care about them and fill their lives with good experiences and happy memories. We all have so much to be thankful for!
They also went downtown yesterday with Mom and Timna (thanks for working it out Michelle) to see the Christmas floats and watch the marching band. Apparently Emmer was just fascinated by the “trumpet guy”. Emmer eventually remembered that he had brought one of his wood blocks with him, so he pulled it out of his pocket and held it in “position” like a trumpet as he intently watched the “trumpet guy” march and play.
Well enough for now. Later. Love you all!
