nonsense ya’ll
so we’re moving! way. way to california and it’s great cuz that’s been the plan for a long time now and finally happening. today we got to pack the 1st of 2 trucks we’re haulling and it was great, it was like a real live game of tetris getting everything in there fitting boxes and whatnot in nooks and crannies, all till we decided that we were gonna take the second truck too, and that made room a non-issue, so waste of space was the name of the latter game.
here’s another thing, before I leave Texas, and only because I’ll soon be far enuf away to say this safely, i’m going to blog about country music.
well, you can’t hardly visit a store here in texas without lettin’ the country music blaze it’s trail into your memory (because they are soooo repetitive that you can’t help memorizing them till they are on par with John 3:16 in your memory lane.) so a few weeks ago I was flying on southwest when I picked up their magazine to read their Featured article on why county music is so popular. well here’s why according to them:
“it tells the whole story you now, like from start to finish, and we don’t leave out the bad neither.” also…. country music is for those who have been “slapped around a lot in life”. if that doesn’t touch your heart or your sore spot, here’s another reason; well, the lyrics are supposed to appeal to folks cuz “they tell it like it is, in uncomplicated lyircs…” or in other words –you don’t have to be sharp to be country.
a few beautiful, deep, examples of lyrics were given such as “I ain’t never seen a hurst with a roof rack” and that’s supposed to be a clearer, more uncomplicated version of the old saying “you can’t take it with you”. another was “she put him out like a cigarette butt on a clear midnight” –and that’s supposed to mean “it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” –or something like that. maybe they or i got that one confused with the whole being “slapped around” part of life. I dunno.
but I do know this, i’m steering clear for awhile
You should’ve waited to writing this post till you got out to Cali…the drive there is going to be looooong and full of good ol’ Country Music (at least for the truckers) most of the way. If you’re lucky you might be able to find some Spanish tunes in there as well…the old ranchero style ones too…yippeee.
January 16th, 2006 at 11:14 pmVery sorry to see you go Claire. It was nice to know you all were close even though we rarely saw you.
BTW every single day since we visited Katherine talks about Ella, her 3 yr old friend with red hair. That was the highlight of her day for sure.
January 20th, 2006 at 11:54 amOh, Ella loved Katherine too! thanks for visiting us, so special! You have such a beautiful family and it’s so easy to see you’re doing a great job Erica, and Shawn, rasing your kids!
